Too often, marine conservation plans are designed without the meaningful involvement of the people who depend on the ocean for their livelihoods, culture, and survival. Women and youth are especially affected, as they are frequently the most marginalized voices in coastal communities despite playing critical roles in food security, resource management, and knowledge transmission. When their perspectives are excluded, conservation efforts risk being ineffective, unfair, and unsustainable.
Our organization is different. We work with communities, not for them. We intentionally center women and youth, recognizing both the barriers they face and the leadership they offer. By investing in local leadership, supporting intergenerational knowledge, and creating inclusive decision-making spaces, we ensure that marine conservation protects ecosystems while also advancing social equity.
When women and youth are empowered, communities become stronger stewards of the ocean; and conservation efforts are more just, resilient, and lasting!
