Take a plunge into  Marine Conservation

We are a women-led marine conservation project empowering local women in coastal communities. With 6+ years of academic and professional experience, we are dedicated to marine ecosystems restoration and marine species conservation.

Empowering Local Women

We involve the local communities so that our work generates not only environmental impact but also social and economic benefits. Local women are not simply employed: they hold real decision-making power. As custodians of local ecological knowledge, they are trained to lead restoration efforts and manage monitoring data, shifting conservation from charity to co-ownership.

An Interdisciplinary Approach to Conservation

Although our core focus is marine conservation, we recognize that the health of the ocean is inseparable from the health of the planet as a whole: terrestrial and marine ecosystems are deeply interconnected. Global biodiversity conservation, strengthens ecosystems, and helps address the root causes of ocean degradation, including climate change and habitat loss.

Rather than isolating marine systems, we take an interdisciplinary approach that creates cross-benefits between land and sea. By supporting both terrestrial and marine conservation efforts, we work toward resilient ecosystems, stable climates, and a thriving planet for all species.

Scholarships and Internships

The Mermaid Project offers, hands-on scientific scholarships and research internships in coral reef ecology, reef health monitoring, and coral restoration. If you’re a student hoping to complete an academic research project, we’re happy to discuss your goals and can accommodate projects on a case-by-case basis.
